Chocolate Chip Cookies

I came to know about chocolate chip cookies way before my advent into US, during the times when I was still naive to the world other than mine which comprised of just my house, our whole family and friends. But I have always been curious about other places and countless hours have been spent in the libraries gaping at pic all over the world.

The famous sitcom “Friends”(thanks to star plus channel) introduced me to an American’ised lifestyle. There was this particular show in Friends which made me laugh so uncontrollably, that I got a good 45min of sound advise from my mother for not behaving ‘womanly’ and laughing out so loudly (!!!). “What will people say?” was her berating query! Anyways coming back to Friends - I relate a lot with the character Monica - I am a neatness freak, I luv cooking and I am organised like hell ( but I am not sure if I am that organised like her!)

This particular show was based on character Phoebe’s Grandma’s Chocolate Chip Cookie ( see a short version of the Video here )and from it , I sure got to know about what cookies were all about. I remember discussing the same with my mom but never ever did I imagine that one day, I will be here in this country and make cookies! Needless to say Chocolate chip cookies were my first cookies I ever made. This show was my inspiration to making the American Classic.

Ingredient
  • 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature

  • 1/4 cup superfine sugar
  • generous 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Method

1.Preheat the oven to 350F. Grease two baking sheets with spray. Cream the butter with the sugars with a mixer.

2.When they are light and fluffy, add in the egg and the vaniall extract and slowly beat it into the mixture.

3.Then sift the flour along with the soda and salt and mix it gradually in the butter mixture.

4.Gently fold in the chocolate chips and the walnuts. Dont do it aggresively, it should be v gentle.

Note : At this point you may be very much susceptible to take a spoonful and pop into your mouth (yum!) but please refrain from doing so. :)

5.Place heaped spoonfuls of the dough in the baking sheet ( you can use small icecream scoops) about 2 inches apart.

6.Bake them for 10-15 min till lightly brown and cool on a wire rack.

Can something be crunchy and still melt so easily in one’s mouth? Want to know ? then U sure got to make this recipe. This goes to Bhags event : This Book Makes me Cook
