Recipe Marathon # 1 Day 8 with Kidney Bean Rice ( Rajma Chawal )

The famous Rajma(kidney beans) chawal ( rice) in North India is a fav. of many including me. The goodness in the rice in terms of Nutrition is awesome and the taste competes with the nutrition. I know that Rajma chawal is Kidney beans gravy eaten with plain rice. Purist will be shocked if I call this recipe Rajma Chawal since it is just a rice and not gravy’ish at all. But I have based this rice with the same recipe as Rajma Chawal.

If you want it like gravy just cook the rice seperately and cook the rajma with the same ingredients but add some water to get the gravy consistancy and eat it with plain rice.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Basmati Rice, cooked

  • 3/4 cup Rajma, pre soaked and cooked. ( For this recipe, dont overcook or make it mushy. Its good to retain the shape yet soft )
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp each of cumin seeds, fennel seeds, cinnamon powder and black salt(optional)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Mango powder
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1-2 green chillies, sliced

Method

2.add the tomato and cook further for 2-3 min. Add Rajma ( kidney beans) and stir them well along with Black salt ( or plain salt).
